You’ll select your size once the campaign ends and we expect to offer a tool where you can plug in the shoes you typically wear and it will recommend the right size in our shoe. Avelo’s fit true to size, so we generally recommend ordering the same size you typically wear in running shoes. We will provide more specific guidance when selecting your size at the end of the campaign.

Yes, Avelos can be used as part of a shoe rotation. Avelo syncs data from other wearables (e.g. Apple, Garmin, Coros) and takes into account the running you do in other shoes. It is recommended to run in Avelos regularly to keep your Avelo insights as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

Yes, it has a PEBA plate, which is more flexible than a carbon fiber plate, making it better suited for every day running, while still providing a smooth and propulsive ride.

We are making one width, and it’s engineered to be snug in the heel and midfoot while roomy in the toe box. Runners tell us they love how comfortable it is. Their toes have room to splay and yet the shoe looks sleek and fast.

As runners ourselves, we feel too many shoes are restrictive in the toe box, preventing our toes from splaying and our feet from fully engaging as they were designed to. We’ve worked hard to make the forefoot more accommodating than most running shoes in the market today.

So if you typically wear a wide fit, there is a good chance Avelos will fit you well. However, if you are unsure, please reach out to us at hello@avelorunning.com, let us know what shoes you typically wear, and we will help you determine if Avelos are right for you.

While not designed to be a classic “stability shoe”, we’ve worked hard to make Avelos stable and have received positive feedback from our wear testers on stability. Our midsole cushioning is made of dual-density foam, which means the bottom layer of foam is slightly firmer than the top layer, which provides stability.

If you are unsure, please reach out to us at hello@avelorunning.com, let us know what shoes you typically wear, and we will help you determine if Avelos are right for you.

Yes. Over time we plan to build a full rotation. We're starting with a versatile, all-around trainer, but our roadmap includes a carbon-fiber plated racer and a non-plated daily trainer. One day, we’d love to build a trail shoe too. Our goal is to provide runners with a full quiver of shoes they can trust for any run, and even recommend the right shoe to the right person based on their unique biomechanics. Backing this first model helps us bring that vision to life.

Yes, the sensors in the shoes are fully waterproof. We recommend washing them gently with soap and water (e.g. it is not recommended to put the shoes with the sensors in a washing machine).

Avelo is produced in partnership with Tier 1 manufacturers in Asia, who specialize in high-quality footwear and consumer products. Our prices take into account the latest rates and forecasts on tariffs and we do not expect to be materially impacted. We have excellent manufacturing partners with flexibility to successfully navigate any changes in global trade policy.

Yes, the sensors are accessible and, when purchasing your next pair of Avelos, we expect to provide the option to replace the battery in your existing sensors and move them to your next pair.

Hassle-free. With Avelo, you don't have to insert or attach anything to your shoes, or switch devices between shoes. Perhaps most importantly - Avelos never need to be charged, lasting the lifetime of your shoes (at least 300-400 miles).

Unique insights. While some of the core running metrics are similar (e.g. distance, pace, duration, stride length, cadence, ground contact time), Avelo includes some metrics not captured by most foot pods such as pronation, footstrike pattern, and ground reaction force. With a sensor in both shoes, Avelo provides a measure of symmetry. And most importantly, Avelo has worked with leading scientists and coaches to create unique insights about your training load and readiness (Impact and Resiliency Scores), efficiency (Efficiency Score), and form (Form Radar). Avelo translates these insights into personalized recommendations including weekly mileage and impact targets and plans, and real-time and post-run form coaching. Getting similar insight using other products is either impossible or requires your manual interpretation. We are obsessed with improving these insights over time. We are early in our journey and as an early adopter your feedback will help shape the product.

Cost. Add-on products cost $300+ for both feet, and you have to buy shoes separately. Avelos have best-in-class sensors built into each shoe for less than the price of add-ons.

Yes, Avelos are built to survive at temperatures below 0° C / 32° F, up to 45° C / 113° F.

Yes, the sensors are fully waterproof, with the highest waterproof rating available (IPX7).

The core metrics measured by the sensors include:

Distance
Pace
Duration
Cadence
Stride Length
Ground Contact Time
Flight Time
Pronation Excursion
Footstrike Type (forefoot, midfoot, heel)
Ground Reaction Force
Vertical Oscillation
Asymmetry

We plan to add to these metrics over time, and have done the hard work to translate these metrics into intuitive, actionable insights including an Impact score (measure of the mechanical load of each run), daily Resiliency score (helping you understand if you’re training at a level that’s safe for you, and how hard/much to train each day and week), Efficiency score (measure of how efficiently you move, the “miles per gallon” of your body), and Form Radar (designed to detect deviations in your form, which may signal fatigue or emerging issues).

Yes, Avelo will integrate with leading smartwatches and use measures of physiological load (e.g. heart rate) combined with Avelo’s proprietary metrics of biomechanical load to provide a holistic understanding of your training load and recovery. We also plan to incorporate more inputs (e.g. sleep, nutrition). We are launching with a Resiliency Score focused on biomechanical load and will incorporate additional measures over time.

Watches are great for the basics - pace, distance, and heart rate. But running starts at your feet, and watches are measuring from the wrist. We believe it’s critical to know what’s happening where your body is interacting with the ground. Watches can’t measure:

Impact: The force your body absorbs with every step
Form: Metrics like symmetry, pronation, footstrike type, and contact time, key to improving efficiency and monitoring your running form over time

Avelo isn’t here to replace your watch - it complements it. We integrate with your GPS and heart rate data to give you a complete picture of your training, from the ground up.

No! Avelo will record your runs even if you don’t run with a phone or smartwatch. For real-time audio coaching, running with a phone will be required. We plan to develop smartwatch apps so that you can also run with a smartwatch to receive real-time audio coaching.

Yes, the batteries are easily replaceable by simply removing the sensors from under the sockliner, unscrewing the case, and replacing the battery. Instructions will be provided. Keep in mind that the sensors are designed to last for the life of each shoe (at least 300-400 miles), and so replacing the battery will primarily be required if moving the sensors from your old pair to a new pair.

Avelo can store up to 20 hours of running on the sensor before requiring you to sync.

We’ve watched the smart shoe space for years - and we think the problem hasn’t been just about the tech or the shoe. It’s about the whole approach.

First, we know runners won’t wear a shoe that isn’t truly great even if the tech is amazing. That’s why we’re obsessed with getting the fundamentals right first: fit, feel, ride, durability. Our team includes some of the most experienced footwear executives in the world and our goal is simple: build a shoe you’d want to run in even if it had no tech at all.

Second, we’re going beyond just spitting out data. Past smart shoes gave you numbers that might be novel, but not always useful. We’ve built Avelo to turn those numbers into actionable insights: how much mechanical load your body’s taking, how resilient you are, how efficient your stride is, and how much and hard to train to stay healthy and improve.

Finally, we’re structured differently. Most smart shoe attempts came from big footwear companies where this was a side project. If it got hard, no big deal, they moved on. For us, this is the company. We’re a group of runners building this because we believe it should exist - and have assembled a team with skills in technology and footwear because we know it takes deep integration across footwear, hardware, software, and AI to get this right.

The bottom line: we’re not adding tech to a shoe. We’re building a better running experience, and our vision is to create and lead the smart footwear category.

Not yet. To deliver a hassle-free experience with accurate, meaningful insights, Avelo’s sensors and algorithms are fully tuned to our shoe’s design and geometry. That’s how we ensure every data point you see is actionable and reliable. While we may offer a way to use the tech with other shoes in the future, today we’re fully focused on building the best integrated experience possible.

Yes, we expect to be able to support multiple pairs linked to one account. We know some runners like to have multiple pairs of the same shoe to rotate between, and we expect to support this.

Avelo's pre-orders ship to the USA. We have plans to expand availability in the future.

Avelo is designed primarily to track running, and will track the steps you take running. In the future we plan to support walking step tracking.

We take your privacy seriously. We are consumers of health and fitness technology ourselves and data privacy is a core issue for us as consumers. How we handle your data is of utmost importance to us. Our clear commitment:

We will never sell your data.

We will only connect to third-party services when absolutely necessary to power core product features, not to collect or share unnecessary data.
Your data belongs to you.

We believe building better running shoes also means building them more responsibly. We’re approaching sustainability with intention:

Quality materials: Avelo uses top quality materials and construction to ensure a long useful life in any environment, for both the footwear and sensor.

Modular design: Avelo sensors are designed to be reused across multiple pairs of shoes, extending the lifespan of the electronics and reducing waste.

Future roadmap: We plan to explore solutions for end-of-life recycling, both for the shoes and the embedded electronics. We’re early in this journey and plan to share more as we progress.

We know many runners care deeply about the planet they run on. we do too. We’re committed to making Avelo not just a smarter shoe, but a sustainable one.
